Setting Your Wall Up for Success

This segment will explore different types of handholds and wall set-up. Participants will learn how to move and orient holds to minimize loose holds as well as breakage. Specialty handholds such as letters, numbers, specific shapes, colored coded systems and large feature attachments will be reviewed and explored for functional use. Placement of handholds for varying heights and ability levels is a key factor for flexibility and accommodating diverse climbers.

Developing Basic Climbing Techniques

This segment will focus on exercises and activities to promote proper climbing technique. Proper climbing technique is important in reducing injury, promoting safety and developing fluid movement. Technical aspects will include grip identification, foot placement, direction of pull, specific body movements and movement dynamics. On and off the wall exercises will be explored as a way of building strength, balance and endurance.

Climbing Wall Games and Activities

This segment will teach games and activities that help reinforce safety, teamwork and good climbing practices. A variety of spotting techniques will be explored for teachers as well as students. All games and activities will offer multiple levels of challenge to accommodate various ability levels. Activities will range from prop-less to prop-based as well as the need for specialty holds.
